Difference between Residential and Holiday Caravans in UK
EN1647 standard is a Holiday Caravan and BS3632 standard is a Residential Caravan. These standards are not arbitrary; they are crucial in determining the suitability, comfort, and safety of a caravan.
EN1647 is a European standard that governs the construction and safety of caravans intended for leisure and seasonal use. These are only found on Holiday Parks.
- Seasonal Comfort: Designed for holiday-goers, these caravans provide a comfortable living space for temporary stays.
- Lighter Insulation: They feature lighter insulation levels, making them ideal for warmer months but can be used throughout the year with upgrades like Double Glazing and Central Heating.
- Cost-Effective: More affordable than their BS3632 counterparts, they offer a budget-friendly option for those looking for a holiday retreat. There is also a much wider selection available from various manufactures.
British standard Residential and Holiday Caravans
BS3632 is a British standard that specifies the requirements for residential park homes and caravans. This standard is established for manufactures to build a product that is fit for full time residential occupancy. These are mainly used on Residential parks, however sometimes found on holiday parks but often only found in top of the range larger models.
- Year-Round Living: They are built to be lived in throughout the year.
- Enhanced Insulation: With higher insulation standards, they ensure warmth in the winter and coolness in the summer.
- Robust Construction: BS3632 caravans are constructed to withstand the wear and tear of permanent occupancy.
These standards do change over time and what is a current standard now will not be the same in the future.
